Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is this Reebok stuff anyway?

A: Reebok University is committed to developing the most innovative group exercise programs, techniques, training, education and equipment possible. Reebok University was founded in 1993 as a place of higher learning for sports and fitness professionals. Bringing together some of the world's top fitness and exercise professionals, Reebok University began to create quality and well-researched education driven programs to help people reach their goals for health, fitness and performance. The Reebok team of experts, the Reebok University Master Trainers, is a group of nationally and internationally respected fitness professionals who develop all the programming. Reebok and Reebok University are the ONLY organizations to have national and international distinction in program development, instructor training and education, and program implementation. They have earned this because the Reebok programs and certification reflect and are driven by current science based principles and approaches in exercise, fitness, and health.

Reebok and Reebok University are nationally recognized as the leaders in group exercise or “aerobic” (now a more traditional term) providers. They are recognized by the American College of Sports Medicine, ACSM, National Academy of Sports Medicine, NASM, Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, AFAA, and The American Council on Exercise, ACE. Many certified fitness professionals who specialize in-group exercise instruction attend Reebok University workshops, conferences, and programs to obtain continuing education credit for certifications they hold.

It all started more than ten years ago with the creation of Step Reebok — the first fitness program of its kind. The programming over the years has evolved to include leading edge programs such as Cycle Reebok, Flexible Strength (Yoga), Core Training, Rep Reebok, and Reebok One to One Flexibility. We are fortunate to have developed a partnership program to the members of the Family Life Center.

Q: Why is this Reebok University/Reebok Professional Studio Partnership so important?

A: The days of old “aerobic classes” have changed and been replaced with the emergence of “Group Exercise”. One reason behind the change is the refinement of the health and exercise sciences with the increased emphasis on the importance of proper education and certification of fitness professionals, group exercise and fitness program design, and group exercise and fitness program implementation. Sadly many fitness centers today require little to no certification, education, and proper training of their instructors they hire to instruct classes. Only those facilities truly committed to high quality programming and service to its members mandate a national certification by one of the top certifying organizations. ACSM, NASM, NSCA, AFAA. This makes it difficult to ensure every member receives the best possible program and are taught by instructors who have received the appropriate training and obtained the appropriate education.

The Family Life Center will run Reebok and Reebok University approved and recognized programs. This is part of having a Reebok Professional Studio. This ensures a high quality programs are delivered to our members. It also ensures consistency in the programming and education and training of our members. Listed below are some the major Reebok University program categories that we will work offer over time as we train educate, certify, and put into practice those key volunteers in the group exercise instructor positions. The categories major listed below is just that, “major categories.” Many other programs are developed out of these categories. For Example; Reebok Deck Strong Abs and back is a class designed to use the innovative Reebok deck to develop stronger abdominal and back musculature and strength.

Q: Who will instruct our classes?

A: A mix of trained and certified volunteers in addition to some part time staff to supplement where needed or required.

Q: What is Free Motion Group Fitness?

A: The FreeMotion Group programs are among the most innovative group exercise and personal training programs in the health and fitness industry today. Based on the FreeMotion training philosophy of replicating basic human movement patterns, FreeMotion Group focuses on building strength, stability, balance and flexibility through performing natural movements such as pushing, pulling, twisting, lunging and squatting.

The human body has over 600 muscles, and all movement, stabilization and strength come from whole body integration. However, the industry tends to neglect incorporating the whole body in exercise programming. Instead, most traditional exercise programs abandon the majority of muscle groups by training only certain muscles in one-dimensional environments. This type of training handicaps the body from performing the way that it was designed to function. In addition, training in an artificial or fixed movement environment leads to isolated results, muscle imbalances and increased rates of injury.

In contrast, the whole body approach of FreeMotion prepares participants of any fitness level to progress and function in daily life. The multi-planar environment of FreeMotion enables the body to become efficient in both static and dynamic environments. FreeMotion training incorporates all the components of a functionally balanced program. Consequently, participants achieve rapid, balanced, and long lasting results. Participants look better, feel better and perform better for a lifetime.

These programs utilize the innovative Free Motion cable column. You will see this piece of equipment in the Reebok studio.

Q: Why did we choose Free Motion Equipment?

A: The philosophy of FreeMotion training is based on simulating basic human movement patterns. FreeMotion focuses on building strength, stability, balance and flexibility through replicating natural movements such as pushing, pulling, twisting, lunging and squatting. FreeMotion is a safe, simple and fun way to train the body. Not only the way it was designed to function. But the way it is required to perform everyday. The Free Motion equipment meets the needs of all user groups from the discontinued to the highly conditioned athlete.

Q: What is Free Motion Philosophy?

A: Roy Simonson founded FreeMotion Fitness (then Ground Zero Design) in 1999 based on a simple, yet bold observation: One-dimensional training doesn't carry over to a three dimensional world. A place where twisting, turning, and moving in all planes is a daily fact of life. This observation resulted in the fitness breakthrough FreeMotion

Revolutionizing the industry with the first, and only, full circuit of integrated functional training equipment, FreeMotion Selectorized sets your facility apart.
